Thanks SOOOO MUCH for this video, I'm a former professional trumpeter who has been recording on the Roland BR-1600 for many years and I could not figure out how to export & import my recordings to my new iPad 13 mini. Previously, in order to convert a recording of mine to an mp3, I had to burn it onto a CD-R disc on my JVC CD Player /Burner, then insert it into my PC - DVD-RW drive, then rip it with my Windows 10 media player as an mp3. I'll have to buy the correct USB connector and try it. Thanks again, John Stefan🎺🎶
Nice Job, Lots of feeling, PS, you do sound like Elvis with a special individual touch. You obviously sang professionally at one time? Thanks for , John Stefan (trumpet)
You sang this beautiful song "Equally" as well as Elvis. You sing with "SOUL." I knew it wasn't Elvis because I'm a former professional Trumpeter who played with many Pop/Rock groups such as Frankie Valli & The 4 Seasons, Jay & The Americans and Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels. "I Enjoyed your version very much." Ironically, I had just recorded "You'll Never Walk Alone" as a Trumpet solo, If you get a chance, check it out on my UA-cam channel ua-cam.com/video/ZMsp28cidRY/v-deo.html. Thanks for sharing - John Stefan 🎺🎷🎵
Handy little units 👍
I love that you're still working with this old gear. 😁I have a Boss BR-600 I got in minty condition three years ago. It sounds nice and imparts a feeling that I can't get on my computers.
Greetings! Enjoying this in 2024! 😁

😢❤
Thanks a lot for sharing this video! In all my close to 25 years with midi, I’ve never seen such a cool, hard drive saving technique! This is far more valuable out the gate than any of the devices’ weight in gold! 🎉💯🎯🤯
Hi Great Vid. Can I ask what is the best way to connect a synth keyboard to the Tascam and what lead needed. thanks.
Headphone to rca
Is this elvis yes it is
No it is not Elvis it is me my name is Harry Stanley
Great job. Sounds like Elvis.
Hi, Great video!-Is this possible with all Ipad models do you know and what is the model of the Ipad you are using? I have several Boss 1600 units and this would be really useful to know-Thanks!
I’m using an iPad Pro but it would be for all iPad and iPhones
@@hsjmusic Many thanks, that's is helpful!, Love the Boss 1600CD machines-All the best! 😀
Thanks hsjmisc for posting this video of you unboxing. Im looking at one just now and if you don't mind me askig how much did you give for it?
I gave $350.00 for it on ebay
Amen
Very cool!
What was the cable set up to record the music from the iPad
RCA and optical cable’s
Beautiful, and so very true God loved us so much that He gave his only begotten son .❤❤
Thank you
Sounds like Elvis and his back up J. B. Sumner!?
Thank you
Love it.. Wish I could get my hands on a mint BR1600CD LOL
I bought all new parts for mine. It took 5 months of nonsence from Roland. But it's brand new again.
good playing, sounds good
Hi, I read a comment from a guy in a review, he said that this deck didn't sound natural, is that true?
I can’t say cause I’m not an expert on cassette decks. I haven’t played that deck in a long while, but it sounds good to me
What a beautiful voice😮,
I have an old BR 864 and a TASCAM 32SD. The BOSS is better in my opinion. I would have bought a new BOSS but they stopped making them. I like the built in drums with the BOOS and built in guitar effects and built in vocal effects. I think the recordings so far just sound better out of the BOSS too. The only thing so far that I like better about the TASCAM 32SD is there are more tracks so you don't have to bounce as much. Maybe the TASCAM will grown on me though, idk. So far, the BOSS recordings are more crisp and punchy. Possibly because of the preset guitar amplifier modeler thingy and separate built in drums.
Did you use the 2488MKII? Good job :)
Used it on one song. GarageBand for the rest
@@hsjmusic well it all sounds awesome my friend 👍
@@kichoforrest thank you
I have to stop breathing to hear you.
Looks good chickens turning my name from JUICEY to nasty
What a nice setup.
I have a 2488 mk2 it's old but i was thinking of trying the 2488neo firmware with it as the mk2 has ide. The Tascam 2488neo has software to make sata hardrives work on the Tascam 2488neo. but i think the 2488mk2 and the 2488neo is the same machine. i tried a startech ide to CF card adapter and it failed to recognize the CF card. Dont think there is any mods for stable hardrives at present .
I think all of that is nice. A solid state drive in those machines would be real nice, but I guess if one of my 2488's hard drive crashes I would put a ide spinning drive back in it.
What made you pick it up? Which one is your favorite? I still think nothing beats the Roland VS Series :)
I do think Roland VS Series are the best. This just completes a collection. Tascam is the first to the home multitrack recording and they are the simplest to use. I would still like to have the Roland VS-1880. I also have coming to me is the Tascam 564 4 Track minidisc recorder
@@hsjmusic Thats awesome. I have been watching your videos sense the VS880 you were using. I look forward to more :)
@@kichoforrest Well I do thank you for watching
Good job all considered! Too bad Roland did not do a similar recording... Fortunately you made your series that covered basics ... And it was understandableI got a video series that was soooo complicated that I gave up. You gave me hope! I also use a BR-600, which is easier to use, and a Yamaha MT120 and a MD8, both much easier to use! Thank you!
dude, this is awesome!!! 🔥🤟🏻 very underrated ✝️🛐🙏🏼💕 God bless your well aged & kind hearted soul. ❤
putting the effect on is a little bit confusing. I understand it is very familiar for you but I have no idead what post fader and knobs you are pushing in between words..
You can send auxiliaries pre or post fader.
Bought my vs880ex yesterday (22 april 2023) for almost nothing and is in excellent condition. Had to choose from a yamaha aw16g and the roland....which was twice the price. No brainer after reading some of both manuals. Thx for this "getting started" tutorial. Its a very complicated maschine but I am sure its a gem if you can find your way with this recorder.
Just bought one yesterday..22 april 2023 ..a vs880ex....which must be almost 30 years old and still in excellent condition. It has a working HD and expansion board. I am making music for 45 years now and every boss or roland product I ever bought is still working and of premium quality. This workstation is a machine to learn but when you understand it it will give you back a smile..and some good sound of course...
Beautiful video! i have a md player same this video but with failed optical unit. Where i can buy a optical unit for MZ-N707? Somebody knows? Thanks!
if it is just an optical cable your looking then look at amazon, but if it is the internal optical on the md device then i can't help you there
@@hsjmusic thanks!! The optical cable is ok, the unit have some problem, bad reading, slow, and sometimes not read the disc, i cant find the optical unit 😢, few years ago are available in aliexpress (have a item but is paused) but now, no (sorry for my bad english, im brazilian 😕)
Great collection !
Nothing beats the BR1600, and I’ve had almost all multitracks, I wish Boss would have continue upgrading it, at least improved it to 24bit but overall it’s the multitrack I’ve been the most productive with, especially compared to using computers. Boss bring it back please!
Like a music production class❤
Slow but sweet tracking😊
Good stuff, man. I know these videos are quite old already, but they've been useful for me. I have been working on getting my 25+ year-old 880EX up and running, and I finally did. Now, of course, I'm having to reacquaint myself with its recording mechanics, as I haven't used it in over 15 years. It's an old machine, but quite fitting for an old dog like me. BTW, I dig the music. Sounds like a nice, chill country tune.
My first digital awesome recorder ! but Roland made many things back lit so cant understand why this had to be for future update bullshit !
😩 𝚙𝚛𝚘𝚖𝚘𝚜𝚖
Is this guy brain dead? Ew can barely open it! It looks small? No, that’s what Alap steel looks like. And he just ends it suddenly. I just sat here like an idiot watching another idiot open a box!
Bring back md
Where does the iPad get connected to, I do not see it into the Behringer uca202?
The Behringer uca202 is usb and I used an apple usb to lightning adapter
Actually I used an apple camera kit adapter
Sony did something with the digital signal processing to enhance the audio on these. They sound way better to my ears than a cd walkman.

I fail to understand why you’d want to convert the analogue output of the DP to digital. The DP works in digital. Everything inside of it is digital. If you want digital just take it out of the DP directly (Export function via the SD card or USB). Why would you chain two conversions (D/A to go out of the DP, then A/D in your little box) to go from digital to digital??
Here is my reason. I'm from the old school way of mixdown. Going from one machine to another machine. On the DP-32SD they took away the cd burner and they took away the optical and the spdif. I like going to a Minidisc recorder such as the tascam MD-350. And I like doing it with optical connection. Multitrack recorder to two track recorder. Not to computer. Even though I use computers to record. But I still like the old school way of mixdown One machine to another machine.
@@hsjmusic right. Understood. But why not mixdown in the DP itself? It has that function. Then you do whatever you want with the mixdown file, be it burning on a cd, copy to a MD or whatever. I am still puzzled :-)
@@micruelle9466 thanks for the comment. I do use it in that way, but I still like one machine to another machine. As far as the tascam dp32sd it’s stays in it’s case. I don’t record on it much. For the majority of my recording are done on my Mac mini using GarageBand
Hello sir I see you have a grey scsi adapter connected to your Roland VS-890 what size is it? I've been trying to find it online unsuccessfully
I really don’t know the size I know it is a 25 pin
@@hsjmusic thank you
found it on eBay: Iomega 50HD-25D SCSI Connector Adapter
